BACKGROUND
 
This Branch is responsible for the protection and preservation of all the JKR registered roads and bridges which formed the largest single public investment in the state. To reap the optimum benefits out of these investments, i.e. to achieve a continuous, efficient and safe transportation of goods and personnel in support of the national goals and objectives, it is necessary to maintain the roads adequately, i.e. as closely as possible to their conditions, as constructed or subsequently improved. Any negligence/relaxation on the maintenance efforts would lead to a higher rate of accidents and expensive premature reconstruction, or rehabilitation.

Presently, the Branch is responsible for the maintenance of 8,749.27 kilometre of Roads in the State. In addition to the roads, the Maintenance Branch is also responsible for the maintenance of 1,095 numbers of bridges.

CLIENT CHARTER
 
Ensuring road users the benefit of safe and easy driving.
1)      Repair works carried out along the road are adequately equipped with standard warning signs and other warning instrumentation in accordance with the JKR guidelines.
2)      Action will be taken not exceeding 3 days from the time a complaint is received for repairs of potholes along sealed roads that may be hazardous to vehicular traffic.
3)      Action will be taken not exceeding 12 hours from the time a complaint is received for the clearing of fallen trees along the road carriageway.
4)      Whenever landslides occur and disrupts the traffic flow or hazardous to the public, appropriate action will be taken not exceeding 24 hours from the time a complaint is received.
5)      Road closure due to an emergency situation such as flood, collapsed bridge and other similar condition will be announced through the mass media within 24 hours from the time a complaint is received
6)      All scheduled road closure will be announced through the mass media at least 3 days before any works are carried out.
7)      Reports and complaints involving local flood and blockage of roadside drains will be investigated and attended to within 24 hours.
8)      Report and complaints received of damaged traffic lights will be investigated and attended to within 24 hours.
